OUr VISION AND MISSION
Our vision is a world where the human rights of older women, children and youth, and gender-diverse persons are recognized and protected so that they can achieve their full potential.
The mission of GRAN is to advocate for the human rights of these vulnerable groups, both globally and locally.
WHO WE ARE
GRAN is a dynamic network of volunteers from across Canada working together to influence policy change and stimulate effective action in Canada and internationally to promote and protect the human rights of grandmothers, children and youth of sub-Saharan Africa.
We invite you to watch this 6-minute video to learn more about us!
What We Do
GRAN’s work is grounded on a firm commitment to social justice, equality and human rights. Older women and the children they support are at the centre of our advocacy.
We take action in four key areas:
- The Right to Health
- The Right to Education and Life-long Learning
- The Right to Freedom from Violence
- The Right to Economic Security and Social Protection
We advocate at the local, national and international level for policies and programs that will address the needs of African grandmothers as they strive to sustain their families and communities in the wake of the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
We educate to raise public awareness and invite engagement and mobilization. This is done through direct messaging, media, social media, campaigns, petitions, events, presentations and more.
We partner with like-minded organizations to amplify our voices and increase our impact.
How we work:
We take every opportunity to participate when, where and however we can to influence Canadian and international decision-makers as they make choices, allocate resources and develop policies and programs that impact the world’s most vulnerable. We work in partnership with many Civil Society Organizations in Canada and internationally with whom we share similar issues and goals.
We engage with MPs, Cabinet Ministers, Parliamentary committees, and Parliamentary Secretaries, as well as with organizations that play a role in international development. We speak up in our communities by submitting Letters to the Editor, circulating petitions and advocacy campaign post cards and holding public events to draw attention to human rights that are being violated or ignored.
