GRAN Action

May Actions:

Action on Mining Justice: Sign Petition e-7361 by May 17th, urging the Canadian government to to appoint a new Canadian Ombudsperson for Responsible Enterprise (CORE) as soon as possible. In 2019, Canada established the office of the CORE to review complaints about possible human rights abuses by Canadian companies working outside Canada in the garment, mining, and oil and gas sectors. However, the federal government has allowed the post to remain vacant since May of 2025, leaving the office unable to process complaints of human rights abuses, and leaving existing and potential complainants in the dark about what, if anything, is to happen with their human rights complaints.

Action on WASH: Write to your MP to voice your concerns about access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene around the world. This is an opportunity to remind our MPs that Canadians do care about climate change, global health, and international aid.

To make it easy for you to compose your message, we have put together a page of talking points which includes a specific “ask”. Use the talking points to support your message, but do try to make your email personal. Say why this issue is important to you. This will help your email stand out and get your MP’s attention. We also suggest you download this bilingual backgrounder on WASH and attach it to your email so your MP can learn more about the issue.

If you are unsure of your MP’s email address, you can find it here. Please either bcc us on your message to your MP or send us a quick email at info@grandmothersadvocacy.org to let us know which MP has been contacted. We’d like to track our advocacy efforts.

Action on WASH: We are calling on world leaders to fund clean water in every health centre, worldwide. Join the global movement demanding world leaders take concrete actions to deliver clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene for every woman, every birth. Sign WaterAid’s Time to Deliver petition. The goal is 100,000 signatures before the UN Water Conference in December. Sign and share this with others.

Action on WASH: Sign the National Council of Women of Canada’s Open Letter to the Prime Minister advocating for safe drinking water and responsible water stewardship in Canada, backed by legally enforceable national drinking water regulations.
