During several events on the margins of the 81st UN General Assembly in New York, the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) gathered partners to mobilize financing, political will, and the energy and capacities of the whole partnership in support of children’s education around the world.
In a difficult global context, members of the partnership rallied and made important commitments.
- Sovereign donors pledged $2.1 billion, including large multi-year commitments from Australia, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and anticipated commitments from the European Commission and several other donors.
- Private sector partners and foundations pledged $1.4 billion in co-financing.
- In addition, 56 GPE partner countries announced $471 billion in domestic education financing commitments, a 32 percent increase in spending by 2030. They also made plans to use education budgets more efficiently, ensure that resources reach the children with the greatest needs, and build resilience to shocks. The GPE works with partner governments to sustainably increase domestic financing, so they can increasingly drive progress through national resources.
