JANUARY ACTION: HELP NEEDED TO #ASKPHARMA TO LOWER THE PRICE OF THE PNEUMONIA VACCINE

JANUARY ACTION: HELP NEEDED TO #ASKPHARMA TO LOWER THE PRICE OF THE PNEUMONIA VACCINE

Pneumonia causes more child deaths worldwide than any other vaccine-preventable disease.  Children with HIV/AIDS are especially vulnerable. Around the world, 75% of children do not have access to the pneumonia vaccine. A key barrier is the high price.  Governments and humanitarian organizations are struggling to meet the increased prices of vaccination and are sometimes forced to make difficult choices--for example, to impose age limits which has dire consequences for children.

Current vaccine prices must be reduced.  GRAN is working closely with Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) who is petitioning Pfizer and GlaxoSmithKline to reduce the price of the pneumonia vaccine from $10 to $5 for all three shots needed for protection.  The petition expires in April.

Now is the time to enlist people in your communities and your networks to sign the petition on line at , or to circulate a paper copy available for download on this website.  Click to download the petition  () and (i)  and the instruction sheet () and ().
