"We support Canadian Aid -- we want Canada to be there -- whenever and wherever we are needed. We want Canada to help rebuild a world of hope, resilience and self-sufficiency. Together we can make a difference at home and abroad. We are Bigger than our Borders."
This is the mission statement of a campaign launched in September 2018 by the Canadian Council for International Cooperation (CCIC) and its members across the country. Described as a nationwide movement to create a stronger world, Bigger than our Borders is asking the Canadian government to begin increasing its financial commitment to Canadian Aid. Currently, Canada spends only 26 cents for every 100 dollars of our Gross National Income (GNI) on international assistance.
Canada has developed a forward-looking and progressive Feminist International Assistance Policy, which GRAN strongly supports. However, to implement this ambitious policy will require more than words on a page. It will require additional financial investment by government.
GRAN supports the Bigger than our Borders campaign and we are adding our voices to this call for a more generous Canadian approach to international assistance.
The Bigger than Our Borders campaign website provides background information about Canadian Aid spending and where our contributions go, and shares inspiring stories of Canadians who are doing their part to make a difference in the world. The site also provides tools such as a declaration to sign, template letters to MPs, sample tweets, and Letters to the Editor to make it easy to take action on this issue.
